Ace Urologist Dr Arshad Bhat delivers guest lecture at GMC Anantnag | KNO

Anantnag, Jun 06 (KNO): Dr Arshad Bhat Consultant Urologist NHS United Kingdom has delivered a highly informative and motivational scientific talk at GMC Anantnag. Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb was the Cheif Guest for the occasion. Dr Arshad, in addition to MS in General surgery from GMC Srinagar has a doctrate in urology (MCH' Urology). Dr Bhat also has the distinction of being "Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS, Urology) Edinburgh". The title for the talk was , "Patient safety outcomes: what can be learned from the West". As per a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Dr Arshad emphasized that it is always the right time to discuss patient safety issue on priority as the body and soul of medical sciences is entrenched in patient care and patient safety. Dr Arshed acknowledged that the doctors working in Kashmir are not only brilliant but are second to none in knowledge of medical sciences. However he admitted that unfortunately at times doctors working at Kashmir are scared more than all the doctors working elsewhere in the word. With an emotional overtone, Dr Bhat said that the hearts of the doctors from Kashmir beat for the homeland Kashmir all the time and always think to contribute back home through whatever means possible. Dr Arshed introduced the audiance to NHS structure and explained explicitly how it works. He informed that for non serious ailments patients have to wait for weeks and months together for a specialists' appointment but there is no compromise in prioritising the care for patients suffering from serous ailments and conditions About the WHO surgical check list Dr Bhat said that it is widely used through out the world for patient safety outcomes for its ease to use and for power of validity and reliability. He explained, with beautiful examples, how wrong procedures have been conducted on patients even in countries like UK in past and still happening. However he said that after introducing checklist for patient safety, the human errors have dramatically decreased though not vanished completely. He added added that after introducing checklist, mortality has decreased by over 50 percent and complication by 38 percent or so. Dr Arshad offered his helping hand to the doctors of GMC Anantnag who want to work at UK to gain more knowledge and experience related to advances in medical sciences. Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag Prof Dr Rukhsana Najeeb thanked Dr Bhat for delivering a wonderful talk at GMC Anantnag. She added that it took her no time to say yes to Dr Arshad when he requested to deliver a talk at GMC Anantnag.
